Rev. Jean Waugh Grier, of Metuchen, NJ, died peacefully at her home on Mon., April 10, 2017.

Jean, born on November 23, 1936 in Plainfield, NJ, was 80 years old. After graduating from Plainfield High School in 1955, she worked at Macy's (Bamberger's) in Plainfield, was later employed at the Art Color Printing Co., Dunellen, NJ and Raritan Arsenal in Edison, NJ. She was also employed at the Edison Job Corps as Secretary of the Chief of Counselors and at Lyons Veterans Administration, in Millington, NJ, as Secretary of the Chaplain's Office.

Jean married Solomon Grier in 1961 and, together, they had 2 children, Glen and Lori.

She attended Rutgers University and Gratz College, earning a Masters in Education. Jean touched the lives of scores of children as a teacher for Franklin Township Board of Education. She loved teaching and was employed doing that important work for over twenty years. Jean actively served as an Associate Minister at St. Matthew Baptist Church in Roselle, NJ where she sang in the choir and taught Adult Sunday School.

A caring and generous individual, Jean had a special love for her family and friends. She spent a great deal of time along with her daughter Lori researching their family roots. She was deeply passionate about learning, loved traveling and was a committed servant of God. She will be greatly missed. Jean is survived by her husband, Rev. Solomon Grier; one son, Glen; a daughter, Lori; one brother, Marvin L. Waugh; one grandson, Jamir; and a granddaughter, Jazmin. Preceding her in death were her loving parents, James D. and Grace Banks Waugh; three brothers, James D., Robert, Earl L. and a sister, Carol Ann Waugh-Bryant.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Jean's memory, to the St. Matthew Baptist Church at the address above.
